USDOT Complete Streets
Complete Streets is a strategy advanced by USDOT and partners such as Smart Growth America to create streets that are “streets designed and operated to enable safe use and support mobility for all users.” Complete street policies and guidelines vary depending on community context, but include elements like “sidewalks, bicycle lanes, bus lanes, public transportation stops, crossing opportunities, median islands, accessible pedestrian signals, curb extensions, modified vehicle travel lanes, streetscape, and landscape treatments.” Saint Paul, Minnesota is an example of a city that has implemented Complete Streets policies, in part through pilot projects and the development of a Street Design manual.
