Ensuring American Leadership in Automated Vehicle Technologies
The National Science & Technology Council and US Department of Transportation released a report with guidance “to protect users and communities, promote efficient markets, and to facilitate coordinated efforts to ensure a standardized Federal approach to American leadership in AVs.”
The report establishes a series of principles that consist of three core interests, with corresponding sub-interests:

- Emphasize Security and Cybersecurity
- Ensure Privacy and Data Security
- Enhance Mobility and Accessibility
- Promote Efficient Markets
- Remain Technology Neutral
- Protect American Innovation and Creativity
- Modernize Regulations
- Facilitate Coordinated Efforts
- Promote Consistent Standards and Policies
- Ensure a Consistent Federal Approach
- Improve Transportation System-Level Effects
The report also details federal activities and resources relevant to the automated vehicle sector, including Federal R&D, resources from the Small Business Administration, and inventor and entrepreneur resources from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
